Beschreibung
If we consider the city not as a machine but as an organism, its metabolic system is one of its fundamental elements. Water, vegetation, waste, etc. are continuities that go far beyond the boundaries of the city. They belong to the order of the territory. How can these continuities be integrated into space without creating an urbanism “rendered more with the arm than with the hand" (Panerai, et al. 1997, p. viii) as castigated by M. De Solá-Morales, or with parameters as we see in some contemporary sustainable projects?
We propose a constant exchange between the scale of the profile of the interstitial space and that of the territory. This "back and forth" between the scale of the systems and the scale of the built space enables an optimisation of the built to give its place to the ecological and social challenge. Thus, we allow the city as machine, product of modernity, to give way to a city where the interstitial space becomes vivid.
