Beschreibung

The investigation of arterial flow dynamics and vessel wall mechanics are important in the understanding of atherogenetic processes. According to recent findings, flow separation and recirculation, low oscillating wall shear stress and particle residence time are decisive factors. In order to increase the understanding of the role of arterial fluid dynamics it is necessary to carry out additional complex investigations using modern technologies. Beyond basic flow dynamical studies further research activity concerns the consideration of physiologically and anatomically relevant conditions. The modeling of the processes yields coupled systems of partial differential equations. Due to the high complexity (realistic three-dimensional geometries, pulsatile flow, blood rheological properties) the development of efficient numerical methods and program packages is required to carry out the computer simulations. The new developments are based on our recently developed finite element procedures. not assigned KP: Chirurgische Univ.Klinik Wien, Abt.
