The Great Hall of the National Library

The result of this project was a three-dimensional, photorealistic, digital model of the Great Hall of the Vienna National Library. This baroque hall is part of the building complex of the Vienna's Imperial Hofburg and contains many of the most valuable exhibits of the Library. The hall was designed by Johann Bernhard and Josef Emanuel Fischer von Erlach (1723). The interior consists of a middle part covered with a dome and two side wings with barrel vaults. Wooden book shelves are situated in two levels. Dome and barrel vaults are equipped with frescos of Daniel Gran. Data sources were selected with respect to the desired final quality of the digital model. The phototexture was achieved by analog cameras. About 100 images have been taken to cover all parts of the object. The geometric model was produced by using existing maps and additional measures. The resulting CAD model was used for a CDi based public presentation of the National Library.
