Advanced Gate Driver Signal Shaping with Frequency Modulation using the Fourier Series

Abstract

Most of the state of the art power converters are using rectangular driving signals for the MOSFETs in the bridges. This hard switching is on one side good for the efficiency of a converter, on the other hand the steep edges in the commutation circuits cause high Electromagnetic Interferences (EMI). These interferences have to be below a certain limit, defined by regulatories.
The goal of the project is to investigate different forms of gate driving signals, which allow the MOSFETs to operate in a well balanced state between interference and efficiency. Spread Spectrum Clocking (SSC) with frequency modulation of the investigated signals is possible.
