abstract = "In this paper, a discrete-time super-twisting controller is applied to the horizontal patient positioning of an magnetic resonance imaging system and compared to a cascaded feedback loop structure using PI controllers. Utilizing a simplified mathematical description of the system, a super-twisting controller with compensation is derived and convergence in finite time is shown. Both controllers are systematically tuned and the closed-loop system performance is evaluated, utilizing computer simulation and a Hardware-in-the-Loop test setup. The super-twisting controller is shown to improve the positioning performance of the system significantly.",
