Crystallographic Studies on Non-Covalent Interactions of Novel Aryl Group 14 Halides and Hydrides

Publikation: Konferenzbeitrag(Altdaten) Vortrag oder Präsentation

Abstract

The role of aromatic non-covalent interactions in the three dimensional stabilization of compounds in the solid state and their importance in chemical and biological processes has been well documented. [1,2] The nature of the aromatic substituent strongly affects the type of electrostatic interaction present which can include π-π, edge to face and C—H···π interactions. Herein, non-covalent interactions in a series of novel, aromatic Group 14 halides (arylnEX4-n) and hydrides (arylnEH4-n) (E = Si, Ge, Sn) are discussed. [3-6] The characteristics and strength of these stabilizing factors and their impact on resulting structural parameters, as well as the effect of the aromatic substituent on the type of interaction formed, are elucidated in detail. Furthermore, weak intermolecular interactions including C—H···X are observed in the case of arylnEX4-n. Additionally, we are able to present the first crystal structures of liquid and highly reactive Sn and Si hydrides (arylnEH4-n) by applying the powerful technique of in situ crystallization.
