Abstract
In this exploratory study we assess tools for digital communication and the underlying motivation of the users to employ them. We analyse important aspects and the differences between private and professional applications and overlaps. Further, the participants reflect upon the use of digital communication tools before and during the pandemic and whether virtual worlds could provide additional benefits for them. We identified the preferred tools and the reasons why they were
chosen. The results show that different tools are used in private and in professional settings. This exploratory study reflects the current state of our participant group and provides ideas for further research on digital communication tools.
