Abstract

In this master’s thesis a contactless measuring system based on ballistocardiography was developed for estimating heartbeat as well as respiratory rhythms. The sensor was designed for persistent usages in home applications and can be placed under a bedpost of a commercially available bed. For robustness improvement a three dimensional measurement of forces was realised. Additionally, a noise reduction method for suppressing disturbances (for example caused by a tramway or footsteps) was implemented. The system was validated with recordings of 4 subjects lying in 4 different beds, whereby 96,47 % of an overall amount of 7713 heartbeat-intervals with an absolute error < 30 ms and a mean absolute error of 8,25 ms (1,01 %) were detected. Within the scope of sleep-monitoring, possible applications of this system could be found in the recognition of sleep disorders as well as in the therapy monitoring.
