Abstract
QUICKWAY is a stand-alone traffic system –or more precisely an elevated network – for use in overpopulat-ed megacities or smart cities. The system serves not only people but moves also small goods using autonomous electric cars. The elevated network is a grade separated traffic system made up of single-span beams, which are supported by columns and covered by a multi-functional roof. Current research activities include environ-mental impact studies and the development of efficient traffic control solutions, modular precast construction and preliminary structural design and construction methods.
The focus of this paper is on the modular precast construction. It consists of slender components made of Ul-tra High Performance Concrete (UHPC). These are assembled by dry joints combined with pre-stress from ex-ternal tendons. The high load bearing capacity of UHPC enables the construction of a very light superstruc-ture, while the use of a modular construction method results in very rapid assembling and mounting and min-imal impacts on the existing infrastructural elements.
