Description

The CYBATHLON BCI Series took place on September 17, 2019 in Graz, Austria in cooperation with the Graz University of Technology. To offer technology developers and researchers the opportunity to showcase their research and development, the CYBATHLON BCI Series 2019 was connected with the 8th Graz Brain-Computer Interface Conference 2019. There, teams had the possibility to present their technologies and methods to the BCI community. The BCI Race followed the rules of CYBATHLON 2020. A specific poster session was planned and selected teams could have a talk in the general conference session. The whole Series event followed the overarching theme “bridging science and application”.

Six pilots from five teams represented five countries in the Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) Race. Four teams qualified for the Final A. The Italian WHi team with pilot Francesco Bettella, the Austrian team Mirage91 with pilot Pascal Prietl, the British team NeuroCONCISE with pilot Owen Collumb and the Thai Team Mahidol BCI with pilot Kriangkrai Tachadee. In the Final A the Italian team WHi beat the Austrian team Mirage91, which was cheered on by the home crowd. Owen Collumb with NeuroCONCISE won 3rd place. The final B was especially close and exciting when Wilfried Panatier of NITRO 1 overtook his team mate Karine Leclerc of NITRO 2 shortly before the finish line.
