3D-Shape Continuum - Innovative measuring technologies for a continuous, digital 3D representation of formed parts

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

Forming (e.g. rolling, forging, drawing) is one of the most important manufacturing processes in the series production of moulded parts. At present, the quality control of the products is carried out exclusively via final inspection using optical or tactile 3D measuring technology. 3D-Shape Continuum makes it possible for the first time through an innovative combination of artificial intelligence (AI) and geometric computer vision to map the entire forming process on the "Digital Twin". 3D-Shape Continuum provides the basis for a 3D measuring system that can be used even under difficult environmental conditions and can be adapted to different surface and object properties. Due to the complete digital representation, effects of production errors can be studied at an early stage on the "Digital Twin" and conclusions can be drawn about the production process.
