Summarizing the proposed project should lead to the development of a new class of silicon-based photoinitiator. In comparison to the state-of-the-art systems, we expect comparable activities and lower production costs. Moreover, we expect a higher flexibility regarding the optimization of desired properties such as solubility, toxicity or light absorption in the visible region. Possible fields of application would include the fields of medical technology or 3D printing. In order to examine the principle feasibility of the overall concept, we propose a three years project. The synthesis and the investigation of the activities of the produced substances will be carried out at the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry of the Graz University of Technology. Photoinitiators with promising properties will be subsequently for practical studies.
