AEIOU Metadaten-Export - A General Cultural Archive of Austria

Under the name "AEIOU Cultural Information System", all projects proposed to the then Federal Ministry of Science and Research for the Austrian Millennium in 1996 focussing on "cultural data in electronically retrievable form" were brought together in a joint project. The developed system offers an ideal platform for the extensive multimedia data of AEIOU due to its special search and navigation options. The basis of the data material is formed by all the texts and illustrations of the "Österreich-Lexikon", which was published in 1995. Further information supplements the encyclopaedia in the form of "albums": for the music album, works by famous Austrian composers have been integrated into the information system alongside a history of Austrian music with audio examples. The picture album contains visual material on Austria's thousand-year history with detailed descriptions. Historical film material matching the keywords in the encyclopaedia has been integrated into the video album in the form of video clips. Another component of the cultural information system is the photo album with a collection of photos from the Austrian National Tourist Office. In addition, the system offers the interactive component "Annotate", which gives visitors the opportunity to make new contributions to the individual topics or to add to existing entries. The AEIOU cultural information system is available to all users on the Internet.
