Arterial Tissue Biomechanics

    Project: Research project

    Project Details

    Description

The aim of this project is to apply the principles of continuum mechanics and fundamental adaptations of those principles (i) to improve understanding of the influence of residual stress in soft biological tissues (particularly human arteries) on the mechanical response of those tissues under normal and pathological physiological conditions, (ii) to develop mathematical models for tissue growth that describe the generation of the residual stresses and their evolution in response to growth, and (iii) to model related aspects of tissue adaptation due to changes in the mechanical environment. The models will be tested in representative initial-boundary-value problems of physiological interest.
