Description

Diesel/natural gas dual fuel gas engines show two combustion anomalies in the combustion process: ringing combustion and knocking combustion. The determination of the knock limit as well as the detection of knocking combustion cycles are both essential to the development of modern combustion concepts. When these combustion anomalies are superimposed, knock detection algorithms created to detect knock in large gas engines led to false interpretations of knocking and non-knocking combustion cycles. For this reason, a knock detection algorithm was developed for use with diesel/natural gas dual fuel engines. The work package also focused on detecting knock onset and knock intensity in these engines.
