Description

The general research objective of this project is to investigate and improve the diesel ignited high pressure direct injection (HPDI) dual fuel combustion concept, also known as gas-diesel combustion concept. This concept is characterized by the introduction of pure air into the combustion chamber during the gas exchange phase and injection of high pressure gaseous fuel during the compression stroke. The non-homogeneous air-gas mixture is then ignited by compression ignition of an additional diesel pilot injection.
