Project Details

Description

The extremely hot summer 2003 was a major topic in mass media and therefore perceived in public as an outstanding event. As a consequence of this long term high temperatures in high mountains massive melting of glacial areas occurred providing perfect conditions for studies in glaciological applications. Therefore an aerial survey was carried out to gather high resolution image-data. The aim of this project is the generation of a digital terrain model (DTN) of the high alpine area of the Glockner- and Granatspitz mountains including the Pasterze glacier and four adjacent glaciers north and south of the main alpine ridge. The DTM forms the basis of glaciological as well hydrological studies. The second product, ortho-rectified images, is the basis to map and successively analyze the micro-scale geomorphology to get a picture of changes in topography probably leading to mass movements in any scale.
