Culture of the City - City and War (O.Univ.-Prof.Mag.art.Dr.phil. Karin Wilhelm)

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

In his monumental survey of ¿the city¿, Lewis Mumford discussed the importance of war in the formation of urban structures. The term ¿divided City¿ reflects the aggressive potential of urban culture in a sublimated form even today. It still has a formative influence on the urban space. The analysis aims to trace the culturation of cities in three historical steps (modern age, 1800, form 1900) so as to show the significance of the symbolic order of the urban space and its architecture, i.e. the social relevance of aesthetic models.
