The statutory evaluation of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in the course of the EU market approval process focusses on environmental and health risks. Other aspects, e.g. socio-economic, broader sustainability are sometimes being considered in the policy decision- but this is neither done in a systematic and structured way nor is this transparent. GVO-TA aims to develop a concept for pre-market evaluations with a broader scope to be used in policy contexts. Main inspirations will come from a review of technology asssement practices. The concept will then be tested in selected case studies.
