Development of calculation models for keyblock analyses in open pit and subsurface engineering

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

Failure of rock blocks is frequently observed in jointed rock masses. Blocks which are critical to failure are referred to as keyblocks. Recent improvements in the geological and geotechnical data acquisition led to new possibilities in the analysis of keyblock failure mechanisms. The objective of this project is to integrate the 3D imaging technology into the analysis procedures for keyblocks, as well as develop new and accommodate existing analysis methods. Keyblock analyses include kinematical analyses, mode analyses and stability analyses. Peculiarities of rock slopes and underground excavations are taken into account.
