Project Details

Description

The objective of the project is to develop and validate a common European test method to determine particle matter emissions (PME) from residential heating appliances and boilers burning solid fuels. The test method shall be the basis for a European standard for PME-measurement. In the previous ERA-NET project Biomass PM, all relevant aspects of PM emissions including possible measurement and characterisation methods were thoroughly analysed. Also recommendations on how to quantify and characterize the PME were given from health, environmental and technological perspectives with the emphasis of scientific research. However, the determination of PME in the context of product development, type test and field inspection poses specific requirements on ease of operation, costs, repeatability, traceability and transparency to non-specialists compared to R&D applications. It is the clear aim with the new method being developed that it should fulfil the particular requirements of product development, product verification as well as field inspection.
