Description

The project continued the contribution to the European Socio Economic Research on Fusion (SERF) via the Austrian OEAW-EURATOM Association. The work is based on the previous project “Long-Term Technology Based Modelling with TIMES, that resulted into the development of a single-regional global energy model (TUG-IPP model) including advanced modelling features like elastic demands, dynamic growth constraints and Endogenous Technological Learning. This model was used further for the analysis of the boundary conditions under which fusion power can enter the energy market, and of the different treatments of endogenous technological progress. The structure and the database of the TUG-IPP-Model were subject to a comprehensive revision. This revision led to a better representation of renewable and non-renewable energy potentials, and to a better treatment of the economics of the electricity sector. Additionally, the representation of technological progress in energy models was extended further by the means of different considerations of technological learning processes (learning-by-doing, learning-by-using, Learning-In-Clusters). Furthermore, the 15-regions EFDA-TIMES model that was developed under the auspices of EFDA was used to study the feature of multiple world regions including trade between these regions.
