FTG-P01 Generation of a verified brake simulation model including the thermal capabilities

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

Currently there is an enormous need for computer aided brake simulation during the vehicle development phase. For that reason the non steady state thermal behaviour of the brakes due to very complex radiation and convective heat flows through the vehicle chassis has to be considered in a physical model. The present research work is concerned with the creation of a simulation environment to predict the non steady state thermal behaviour of vehicle brakes. Attention should be paid to the physical modelling of the convective heat flows and its integration into the vehicle brake simulation to reduce the computational time. The calculation efficiency is improved further by a co-simulation based on object architecture between two different software platforms. The brake squeal is another aspect during the vehicle brake development, which could be perceived by the driver and the environment respectively as very unpleasant noise. It can be caused by variation of contact stiffness between the brake lining and the brake pad. For this reason, special attention is paid to the physical modelling of the energy dissipation of the contact layer and in addition to the identification of its stiffness and damping parameters. The introduced models and their practical application are validated by vehicle and test bed measurement results.
