Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

The goal of the project is the investigation of self-assembled monolayers on metal and insulator surfaces, using surface science techniques (Michael Ramsey, Karl Franzens Universität Graz) as well as quantum-mechanical modelling (Egbert Zojer, Technische Universität Graz). To that aim, both photo-electron spectroscopic investigations (UPS, XPA) as well as slab-based band-structure calculations will be used. Additionally applied methodes include various scanning probe microscopy techniques, infrared-absorption, as well as molecule based calculations. The investigated SAMs include, for example thiols on Au(111) surfaces, where particular emphasis will be put on layers bearing groups that can be modified with photochemical reactions.
