The HIPSTERS project realises protein extraction from residues of the food industry with a radically innovative extraction process. For this purpose, a novel reactor technology is being further developed and new combinations of extraction agents are being used to extract proteins and amino acids directly from spent grains as a sample residue for further processing in Styrian companies. In the HIPSTERS total biorefinery concept, the subsequent utilisation paths of the residual flow are evaluated with regard to the nutrient balance and energetic utilisation possibilities (biogas production) and transferred to other residual flows in the food industry. Based on highly scientific research in cooperation with Styrian companies, HIPSTERS is developing a new value chain by extracting high-quality proteins from residual streams.
