    Project Details

    Description

Weather radar data with high spatial resolution und short update intervals has the potential for the detection and prognosis of precipitation events. Weather radar is still predominantly used visually and intuitively by human observers. There are ongoing efforts to automate this process. A cell tracking and forecasting algorithm, based on digital image processing of weather radar images, is already developed. The goal of this project is to further improve the cell tracking and forecasting methods, to integrate parallel available online meterological data and to research the influence of other environmental factors like orography. As a result an automatic precipitation forecasting and warning system for radar covered areas should be developed and finally integrated into the Weather Image Information System (WIIS).
