LumiRad - Smart radar sensors for road traffic analysis and street lighting control

This project aims at developing an economic radar-based sensor-system which is able to automatically detect, count, and classify participants in road traffic. The achieved results shall be used for complex road management, like intelligent demand-oriented illumination of roads, crossings and public places or optimisation of the traffic flow by means of a dynamic traffic light preemption. A fully automated collection of traffic information is needed for a sustainable traffic management. The developed sensor-system has to allow a simple refurbishment and upgrade of existing lightning installations.
