MikroMet-AI - Kl-based microstructure assessment of metallic surfaces

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

The mechanical properties of metal alloys, especially steel, are largely determined by their microstructure. The result of the metallographic analysis of microscopically small structures (grains, precipitates, non-metallic inclusions, ...) allows conclusions to be drawn about the mechanical properties of the material, but also an assessment of the quality of the production process (melting, solidification, heat treatment). Despite all developments in digital image processing, data acquisition and evaluation are currently manual processes and therefore the need for a largely automated, repeatable, precise and objective metallographic analysis functionality arises. Key to this is the automation of data acquisition processes, as well as methods for AI-based evaluation of micrographs.
