OPIP - Simulation and optimization methods for electrical machines

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

Optimization of Inverter Package: In addition to classic performance data for electric vehicle drive axles such as power, torque, efficiency and torque ripple, the installation space is also of great relevance for vehicle integration. This installation space aspect, together with other requirements, should be taken into account as precisely as possible in the early development phase. The electric drive axis consists of an electric machine, a gearbox and the power electronics. The essential properties of the electrical machine that are relevant to the installation space can be described by diameter and length. The gearbox in electrified vehicle drive axles is a two-stage helical gearbox with integrated differential in almost all applications. A model has already been created for this topology at Graz University of Technology, which represents the installation space in a digital mock-up model. In current work, a constant package is assumed for the power electronics (often also referred to as an inverter). The aim of the project is to develop a parametric power electronics installation space model for use in the search for the optimal design and arrangement of the drive train components electric machine, gearbox and power electronics in an available vehicle installation space.
