Optimising alignment parameters for the Murtalbahn

    Project: Research project

    Project Details

    Description

For a customer-oriented transport offer after the opening of the Koralm Railway the Murtalbahn needs to serve the timetable hubs in Unzmarkt and Murau. To enable this, a significant travel time reduction is required. Several measures have already been investigated to reach this goal. However, it needs to be clarified if an adaption of the alignment parameters allow for further travel time reduction without cost-intensive realignment measures.
Therefore, several alignment guidelines from Austria, Germany and Switzerland for different track gauges are investigated. The focus of the analysis is on superelevation, minimal element length and ramp inclination.
