Project Details
Description
The orthotropic decks of existing steel highway bridges that were built in the 1960s, shows shortcomings with respect to the fatigue behaviour and the remaining service life. The conventional asphalt cover, with very limited bearing capacity at higher temperature, should be replaced by a slender high performance concrete layer in order to limit the stress cycles within the steel deck caused by heavy traffic loads.
