Description
Corrosion failures on pipeline isolation couples
Isolation couples are used to electrically isolate pipeline sections that are cathodically protected from those that are not. In pipelines that carry conductive liquids - e.g. salty water – this electrical isolation is bridged and corrosion leaks occur at or close by the isolation couple.
A system to prevent such pipeline leaks and thus mitigate the risk to people and environment shall be developed.
