PONTES - Positioning and Navigation of Visually Impaired Persons in an Urban Environment.

    Project: Research project

    Project Details

    Description

The overall concept of a navigation system is tailored to the special needs of blind and visually disabled people - in particular, the concept deals with blind pedestrians in an urban outdoor environment. In the scope of this national research program, a prototype is developed which should cover all components of a navigation system: route planning for the generation of a maneuver list, positioning including map-matching to a modelled path, and guidance on the basis of suitable instructions. All system modules are mainly based on the modelling of the environment where the blind person is moving.
