Project Details

Description

Research activities at the LEC focus on the area of large engines, in particular engines for power generation and for ship and locomotive propulsion. The primary objective is to develop advanced combustion processes for this category of engines with the highest efficiencies and simultaneously minimal emissions and maximal power output. To this end, the LEC uses its own special methodology based on the intensive interaction of simulation and experimental investigations on single-cylinder research engines. Work is being done to develop the simulation models necessary for the most realistic pre-calculation of the engine working cycle and metrological procedures for improved analysis. Further areas of emphasis are the detailed investigation of injection processes for liquid and gaseous fuels, thermal management for passenger cars and lubricants.
