Project Details
Description
SETIC is funded by the EC under the program IST (Information Society Technologies).
For secure data exchange (e-commerce, electronic banking etc.) between an electronic system and a person, security tokens for authentication are not enough. We also need secure keyboards or secure card terminals for such data exchange. Within the SETIC project we will develop an universal Secure Terminal IC (Integrated Circuit) out of an advanced smart-card processor kernel. With this single chip solution it will become possible to develop secure terminal solutions in a simple and economic way.
The chip will include a smart-card processor kernel with cryptographic modules for AES, DES, RSA, ECC and a universal hashing module. Various interfaces like keyboard matrix, LCD drivers, USB-hub are also part of the system as contact and contact-less smart card interfaces.
The security level of the SETIC device will be analysed and certified by a Common Criteria evaluation.
IAIK´s main task is the development of the crypto coprocessors. The two main tasks are to improve key management and key agility of the existing AES module and to add functionality for modes of operations e.g. CBC (Cipher Block Chaining) to control-interface and crypto-core.
Improved key management and key agility is provided by a sophisticated architecture of the key unit.
