Description
Rail freight transport has been characterized in recent decades by losing market share towards the road. The reasons are low degree of innovation, lack of efficiency and lack of customer
focus. The economic prerequisites for growth in freight transport are currently given by the generally strong economic growth and, especially in the wood, pulp and paper industry, strong growth is predicted for the coming years. For example, the paper industry (mainly packaging) expects to increase the wood consumption by up to 30% in Europe over the next 5 years.
For the market announced in this project, the planned project is a tremendous improvement towards the "state-of-the-art" in woodlog transport. The competitiveness of rail logistics in
relation to the road is massively improved and the development of this project aims into the direction of a rapidly growing and highly receptive market, which should accelerate market
penetration.
The project team has come together to set new standards in the areas of technology, logistics and customer focus. For this purpose, a new, particularly lightweight, high-performance wagon for woodlog transport will be designed and built using innovative steel construction materials, which will form the basis for an optimally developed logistics system. A net increase in payload (train length of 600 m, axle-load category C / D) up to + 53 / + 50 % ideally compared to an Rwagon can be assumed. On average for industrial wood, the payload advantage is + 20% to +40%.
