Project Details

Description

Goal of this project is the characterization of emissions from wood pellets. A great variety of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) is emitted from stored pellets. Recent works focused on carbon monoxide (CO) emission and their release mechanisms in general. In the ongoing project Pellet rapid test a characterization of VOCs could be accomplished for some different types of wood. In cooperation with wood pellet producers the awareness towards the frequently occurring smell problems emerged. As an example, malodors occasionally developed at the customers site, which were characterized as cat pee. In these cases a complete substitution of the pellets became necessary.
