Description

In the chemical industry, various production processes require liquids to be turned into sprays using various kinds of atomizers. In many cases the liquids exhibit a flow behaviour other than Newtonian. They may be viscoelastic and, therefore, exhibit a complex behaviour upon break-up of liquid jets or sheets in the atomization process. Typically such fluids may be polymer solutions. In the present research project, a method for layout and / or selection of appropriate atomizers for spraying non-Newtonian liquids is developed, following criteria concerning mass flow rate, working principle of the atomizer, and desired mean drop size in the sprays.
