Support of Short Term Scientific Missions (STSM) on "Soil Structure Interaction in Urban Civil Engineering" in the frame of COST Action C7

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

The COST Action C7 objective is to formulate recommendations for best practise for how to take into account soil structure interaction in urban areas. The target groups to benefit from the work are: the planning engineers, the architects in the sector of town planning and urban development, the structural engineers and the construction engineers. The working includes a) gather and share information on the subject across Europe in terms of differences in analytical methods, practical test methods and experience with case records and field measurements and b) process and present this information in a form so that other can learn from it to the benefit for the urban planners, the designers/structural engineers and the geotechnical profession. Main focus is to increase the understanding of i) how deep excavations, deep foundations and tunnel work effect the nearby environment and ii) how the different professions can interact in the planning and implementation phase to achive optimal results. 25 STSMs have been successfully completed under the framework of three grants.
