Time interval of inspections on historical riveted steel railway bridges based on fracture mechanics

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

Based on fracture mechanics, the remaining fatigue life of historical riveted steel railway bridges is predictable, without the knowledge of the fatigue damage of the past. For a representative bridge structure a simulation of the train crossing was done and accurate time intervals for crack inspections were determined for all bridge members (main girder, girder of the carriage way).
