Many flow phenomena in thermal turbomachinery are influenced by laminar-to-turbulent transition. The skin friction and the heat transfer of turbomachinery blades are strongly dependent on transition behaviour. Also the flow separation at low pressure turbine blades or in compressors can be influenced by separated-flow transition.
Therefore, the numerical prediction of transition is essential for an accurate flow design of turbomachinery blading. In this working area different transition models are incorporated in CFD solvers, eventually modified and finally tested for their applicability.
