Transonic Turbine Testing

Project: Research area

Project Details

Description

The institute operates a transonic test turbine rig for the investigation and development of transonic turbine stages. The test rig allows a pressure ratio of 5, a maximum mass flow of 22 kg/s and a maximum turbine power of 3 MW, so that first and second turbine stages can be tested in full flow similarity. Conventional and optical measurement methods like LDA and PIV are applied to investigate the flow. The measurement of unsteady flow data will help in the understanding of the complex unsteady phenomena in transonic stages and thus help in the future development of more efficient turbines.
