Additional to the implementation of road pricing on Austrian motorways for heavy good vehicles (HGV) the so called “high toll roads” were still kept. This study investigates the negative impacts of these high toll roads in respect to nearby industrial areas in Austria. It analysis the interconnections of good transport via high toll roads differentiated for price-sensitive classes of goods. Aside from, possible t-tours on toll-free roads are analysed and optional transport alternatives by rail are presented. Moreover, the potential modal shift from road to rail on specific alternative routes is estimated. The study serves as a base for the economic analysis done by the Austrian Institute of Economic Research (WIFO).
