Trofaiach. The urban core as vital organism

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

This project deals with the virulent topic of vacancy in, and respectively with the strengthening of, town centers in medium-sized towns in rural regions in Austria. A row of houses in the center of the Styrian community of Trofaiach serves as a case study to develop methods for the transformation of existing building structures and to reflect on the related potentials for a future development of rural communities in Austria. Which methods can be used to reinterpret a historically grown structure in a design-oriented way? With which programs can the center of a community be reactivated? How will we shape social coexistence in the future and what contribution can architecture make here? In this project, tools for a strategic town center activation of communities in rural areas in Austria will be developed.
