Project Details
Description
During continuous casting of steels, a number of technological problems can occur, a major one being cracks. On a mechanical testing machine (BETA 250), the conditions during casting and subsequent rolling are simulated including the solidification process and controlled cooling. The specimens are then in-situ tested. From the mechanical properties (stress/strain curve) and fracture appearance, conclusions can be drawn on how to improve the microstructure and the casting process to avoid unwanted cracks.
