Zero-Energy-Skyscraper

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

To design a Zero Energy Building (ZEB), the first and essential step due to the very low energy density of renewable energy sources - is to minimize energy demand. In a skyscraper design, the vertically stacking of energy demand in an inherently less efficient typology coupled with the very low ratio of optimally oriented surfaces for solar energy production to usable floor area makes the design of a tall building as a ZEB a difficult proposition. In this research project, the following questions are addressed: How feasible is a Zero-Energy-Skyscraper? How does the feasibility vary depending on the climate zone in which the skyscraper is located?
