Abstract

A four-stroke internal combustion engine is described, comprising at least one cylinder (9) whose cylinder head (10) comprises at least one intake port and one exhaust port (11, 13), a crankcase (3) forming a crankcase pump and being connected via a valve (16, 21) each on the one hand to an inlet port (17) for fresh air and on the other hand to an intake manifold (18) connecting the crankcase (3) with the intake port (11), and a lubricating oil circulation comprising a container (32) for the lubricating oil, a conveying device (34) connected to the container (32) for the lubricating oil for injecting lubricating oil into the crankcase (3) and an oil separator (19) in the intake manifold (18). In order to provide advantageous lubricating conditions it is proposed that the lubricating oil circulation comprises a dirt separator (26) which is connected with the oil discharge conduit (25) of the oil separator (19) and comprises at least one heatable settling chamber (27).
