Abstract

An ammonia-fueled internal combustion engine concept, coupled with an ammonia cracker supplying small quantities of hydrogen as a combustion enhancer, was studied using a stationary application in the 1 MW range. Single cylinder measurements with a spark-ignited combustion concept initially were performed, and the results will be shown. In addition, potential exhaust aftertreatment catalysts were tested to evaluate possible aftertreatment layouts that would minimize overall emissions of an ammonia-fueled system.
