Abstract

Higher efficiency in switched mode power supplies can
be reached by the use of fast switching semiconductor
components. Nevertheless, the steep transitions cause
significant electromagnetic interferences, which have
to be reduced by filtering. These filters are a main
contributor to the overall costs of a device. Therefore,
good filter performance should be achieved with a
minimum number of components.
The goal is to deliver design guidelines for switched
mode power converter filters that allow engineers to
design such high performance filters easier.
This aim can be reached by a methodogical approach
including measurement and modelling of basic filter
components and in depth investigation of the overall filter
with electric and magnetic coupling between the
elements.
