Abstract
This paper describes possibilities and potential-ities for analyzing and optimizing the dynamic behaviour of crawler chain drives with mining machinery by means of Multibody dynamics (MBD). Rigid and flexible simu-lation models within MSC Adams are introduced therefore. Selected results as well as specialized approaches (non-linear FEM) provide valuable insights in chain dynamics, interaction and optimization potential. Design change considerations become then supported by simulation to improve the interaction of chain and driving chain wheel for better dynamics and increased service life. Proving simulation results with Sandvik‘s long term knowledge and selected measurement confirms the modeling approaches.
